Click on say it

Hello, my name is Mike. Welcome to our language portal! I want to introduce a new text to speech service, which means I can read out anything you like. I and my colleagues speak English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Just type a word or a phrase, or copy and paste any text, and I'll say it back for you. You can also translate your text to any of the available languages, and I will read out the translation. You may want to master a foreign language by practicing the pronunciation. Just repeat after me! It will be fun!

Lack of writing inspiration

Lately, it seems difficult for students to come to class with some writing ideas. So, we must find a solution all together. We've decided to start reading four different readers that are much related to our class story, about police and robbers' matters.

Cristian is reading Help! by Philip Prowse, Lara is reading White Death by Tim Vicary, Laura is reading Love or Money by Rowena Akinyemi and Sara is reading Footsteps by . After reading these books, they must tell us about them, writing a review on each book. In order to do so, we must follow a writing guide, which can be found in our wiki.

How to write a story

We are writing a story all together in class, but before we need to plan our writing. Some steps must be followed and this is what we've been doing so far:

1st These are our characters: two robbers, two police officers, but we also need to add secondary characters like the owers of a mansion and other ones.

2nd Where is the action going to take place?
Well, mainly in Xinzo, but also outskirts and perhaps somewhere else too.

3rd What?

Two expensive cars and some money have been robbed from a rich mansion outskits and policeofficers from Ourense must find out what truly happened.

4th When? On Sunday morning at 11:00 am, the police received a phone call from Mr and Ms Dacal. However, when did the robbers take the money? Well, readers will be known the answer shortly.

5th Robbers need an alibi. So far we've just agreed that the robbers were reading a book at the library, but this is not definite. Lara suggests the recreation of the same image in front of the camera.

As you can see, these are the first steps to write a story, so you will read more as we spend more time in our writing workshop.

The Jumping Frog by Mark Twain

Why does this frog like jumping so much? Read through this short story written by Mark Twain and try to explain what the jumping is about. You can also use this web page.

Now you need to comment on the typical bets and races that people used to do at that time. You'd better explain this kind of gambling and then give your opinion about them.

Why was Smiley so proud of his frog? To answer this question, you need to read through the story and think about the reasons why. You can also use this web page.

Learning English through Music

Hello there!

Are you ready for singing? Of course you are. Here's a good song for you to practise. I hope you get it perfect!

Tip: Turn the volume down and try to imitate his or her accent. You can also pay attention to her mouth. This will help you to pronounce the song better and what's more, to make it English.

Lyrics | Duffy lyrics - Mercy lyrics

Now it's time to listen to Black Eyes Peas:

We can work on this well-known song, if you like. Let's start by having a look at the lyrics:

Lyrics | Black Eyed Peas lyrics - I Gotta Feeling lyrics

I gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night
that tonight’s gonna be a good night
that tonight’s gonna be a good good night (x4)

Tonight’s the night
Let’s live it up
I got my money
Let’s spend it up

Go out and smash it
like Oh My God
Jump off that sofa
Let’s kick it OFF

I know that we’ll have a ball
if we get down
and go out
and just lose it all
& I feel stressed &
I wanna let it go
Lets go way out spaced out
and losing all control

Fill up my cup
Mozoltov
Look at her dancing
just take it OFF

Lets paint the town
We’ll shut it down
Let’s burn the roof
and then we’ll do it again

Lets Do it (x3)
and live it up

i gotta feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night
that tonight’s gonna be a good night
that tonight’s gonna be a good good night (x2)

Tonight’s the night (HEY)
let’s live it up (let's live it up)
I got my money (okay)
Lets spend it up (lets spend it up)

Go out and smash it (SMASH IT)
Like Oh My God (like oh my god)
Jump off that sofa (C'MON)
Lets kick it OFF

Fill up my cup (DRANK)
Mozolotov (La'Chaim)
Look at her dancing (Move it Move it)
Just take it OFF

Lets paint the town (paint the town)
We’ll shut it down (shut it down)
Lets burn the roof (whooooooo)
and then we’ll do it again

lets do it (x3)
let’s live it up

Here we come
here we go
we gotta rock (rock rock rock rock!)

Easy come
easy go
now we on top (top top top top!)

Feel the shot
body rock
Rock it don’t stop (stop stop stop stop!)

Round and round
up and down
around the clock (clock clock clock clock!)

Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday
Friday, Saturday, Saturday to Sunday
Get Get Get Get Get with us
You know what we say say
Party every day, pa-pa-pa-party everyday.

And I’m feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good night
that tonight’s gonna be a good night
that tonight’s gonna be a good good night (x2)
